PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molten metal refining method for use in performing continuous refining of a molten metal by adding a powdery and granular refining agent to the molten metal, and in which method, the powdery and granular refining agent excellent in reactivity is efficiently added to the molten metal and also the potential energy of dropped molten metal is utilized to stir/mix the molten metal and the refining agent for efficient refinery of the molten metal. SOLUTION: The molten metal refining method comprises: dropping the molten metal 8 while filling a cylinder 3 therewith; submerging the lower end of a lance 4 for adding the refining agent in the dropped stream of the molten metal in the cylinder thereby adding the refining agent 9 from the lance for adding the refining agent to the dropped stream of the molten metal; and mixing the molten metal with the refining agent by utilizing the energy due to the dropping of the molten metal, thereby advancing reaction between the molten metal and the refining agent.
