PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the trouble in conventional thermal head unusual overheating detection method wherein unusual overheat incident to temperature rise due to repetition of platemaking operation at the time of continuous platemaking cannot be discriminated from unusual overheating due to abnormality at the electric drive section of the thermal head, and a serviceman call is indicated when the upper limit temperature of the thermal head is exceeded.

SOLUTION: An unusual overheating factor judging means 3 is provided with a function for judging unusual overheating due to abnormality at the electric drive section of the thermal head 10 and unusual overheating of the thermal head 10 at the time of continuous platemaking of a plate making device 1 when the detected temperature of thermal head exceeds its upper limit threshold level Ta based on the transition state of the thermal head detected by a thermistor 37.
