<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control start of an internal combustion engine under improperly engaged condition of a brake of a transmission in a hybrid car to which an internal combustion engine, a generator and a drive shaft are connected through the medium of a planetary gear mechanism and in which an electric motor is connected to the drive shaft through the medium of the transmission. <P>SOLUTION: When a value obtained by dividing required torque Tr* of a drive shaft by gear ratio Gr of a transmission is less than prescribed torque Tmc at instruction of start of an internal combustion engine, excessive torque of the electric motor with respect to the required torque Tr* is controlled to be canceled with a generator by utilizing reaction force generated by friction of the internal combustion engine while controlling the prescribed torque Tmc to be outputted from an electric motor (S130-S150) so as to confirm that a brake is properly engaged (S170-S240). When the engagement is confirmed, the internal combustion engine starts.
