PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antiseptic technique for a water-soluble metalworking oily agent, having high antiseptic/germicidal effects and slight influence on the human body and useful for a long period of time. SOLUTION: This preservative for the water-soluble metalworking oily agent comprises 1,2-benzoisothiazolin-3-one and at least one kind selected from the group of (1) 4,4-diaminodicyclohexylmethane, (2) 3-(diethylamino)propylamine and (3) 1-(2-aminoethyl)piperazine in the weight ratio of 1:2-1:70.
