PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an encapsulated detector member, especially an optical image element, allowing reduction of the whole dimension of an encapsulated package especially on a surface of a detector itself. SOLUTION: This element for detecting electromagnetic radiation, especially infrared rays, comprises a vacuum or low pressure enclosure 5 called a first enclosure where one surface 3 is formed of a permeable window 4 to the detected radiation. The element also comprises at least one actual detector 6 located substantially on the opposite side to the permeable window 4 in the enclosure, and a pump exhaust or getter means 13 of residual gas that is located in a second enclosure 20 arranged outside the first enclosure 5, communicates with the former, and is intended to keep the vacuum inside the enclosure 5 to an allowable level.
