PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent troubles in a magnetostrictive-type torque sensor from being misdetected. SOLUTION: This magnetostrictive-type torque sensor 30 for detecting torque input into a steering shaft 1, based on changes of magnetic characteristics of the first magnetostrictive film 31 and the second magnetostrictive film 32 provided in the steering shaft 1 and different each other in magnetic anisotropies, is provided with the first detection coil 33 and the second detection coil 34 arranged facing the first magnetostrictive film 31; and the third detection coil 35 and the fourth detection coil 36 arranged facing the second magnetostrictive film 32, the trouble in a magnetostrictive type torque sensor 30 is detected, based on an output from the the first detection coil 33 and an output from the second detection coil 34, an output from the third detection coil 35 and an output from the fourth detection coil 36.
