PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To position a recorded end on a magnetic tape at high speed. SOLUTION: A data recorder 10a controls writing/reading to/from a recording medium 36a such as a magnetic tape loaded based on an input/output request from a host 14. A medium information acquisition part 51 acquires the number N of medium marks read from a memory 38a arranged in a housing of the recording medium 36a when the recording medium 36a is loaded. When receiving an end positioning instruction from the host 14, a positioning control part 52 positions the recorded end position on the recording medium 36a to the head based on the the number N of the tape marks acquired by a medium information processing part 50.
