PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detecting method of abnormal protrusions on a surface of a magnetic disk which can grasp distribution of abnormal protrusions called ridges on the surface of the magnetic disk. SOLUTION: The abnormal protrusions on the surface of the magnetic disk 6 is detected by rotating a magnetic disk 6 to float a head slider 1 to a level to perform intermittent contact to the surface and observing flow distribution of liquid lubricant formed in a lubrication layer 3 by contacting the head slider 1 to the surface of the magnetic disk 6 at that time.
