PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a system for producing dimethyl ether (DME) at low cost and in high purity through smoothly carrying out a separation of DME and light components while cutting freezing cost. SOLUTION: The method for producing DME through the process of separating the light components from a DME-containing composition essentially comprising DME and the light components lower in boiling point than DME comprises (a) the step of distilling the DME-containing composition using a distillation column to obtain an overhead gas rich in the light components and DME-rich bottoms, (b) the step of mixing methanol with the overhead gas to form a liquid phase comprising the methanol and DME, (c) the step of making a gas-liquid separation of the fluid obtained by the step (b), (d) the step of refluxing the liquid portion obtained by the step (c), and (e) the step of extracting the gaseous portion obtained by the step (c). The system for the above separatory process is also provided. Thus, the method for producing DME using the separatory process and the system for this method are provided respectively.
