PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bulk oxide superconductor high in critical current density by introducing an effective pinning center. SOLUTION: The superconducting oxide material is characterised in that particles in BaCeO<SB>3</SB>phase or Ba(Ce<SB>1-a</SB>M<SB>a</SB>)O<SB>3-b</SB>phase (in which 0<a<0.5 and 0≤b≤0.5 are satisfied, and M is a metal element such as Zr, Hf, Sn) are dispersed as pinning centers in a crystal of RE<SB>1+x</SB>Ba<SB>2-x</SB>Cu<SB>3</SB>O<SB>y</SB>, in which 0≤x≤0.1 and 6.5≤y≤7.2 are satisfied, and RE is at least one element selected from the group consisting of Y, La, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, and Yb; and one of Pt and Rh, or both of them are added to it.
