PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for calculating transporting ability capable of easily calculating the necessary transporting ability at shipping bases in a transportation network composed of a plurality of transporting routes from the shipping bases for shipping transported articles via intermediate bases to terminal bases. SOLUTION: The transporting ability calculating system is composed of a transported article information storing means 5 for storing transported article information, a transporting route information storing means 6 for storing transporting route information, and a necessary transporting amount calculating means 7 for calculating a necessary transporting amount of the transported articles and a necessary transporting time from a shipping base to a terminal base so as to identify the necessary transporting ability at the shipping base. The transportation network is composed of a plurality of the transporting bases 2. The transporting ability calculating system calculates the necessary transporting ability for each shipping base so as to plan distribution of movable bodies for transportation to each shipping base based on the calculation results.
