PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a spline in a hollow power transmission shaft which can be formed at good precision by a press-working. SOLUTION: A die 4, in which a spline forming part 4a is provided in the inner periphery and the maximum diameter B in this spline forming part is larger than the outer diameter A at the end part in the small diameter part of a hollow shaft blank and the minimum diameter C in this spline forming part is smaller than the outer diameter at the end part of the small diameter part of this hollow shaft blank, is prepared. Then, the spline 1d1 is formed at this end part by pressing the end part of the small diameter part in the shaft blank into the spline forming part 4a in the die in the axial direction.
