PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating method capable of efficiently pre-heating a water-based coating and imparting good property to the pre-heated coating film. SOLUTION: In a first pre-heating step between an intermediate coating step and a base coating process, a first hot air zone 5; a second hot air zone 6 for performing heating at higher temperature than the first hot air zone 5; and and a first cooling zone 7 are provided. Further, in a second pre-heating step between the base coating step and a clear coating step, a third hot air zone 12; a fourth hot air zone 13 for performing heating at higher temperature than the third hot air zone 12; and a second cooling zone 14 are provided.
