The method involves providing an actuation unit (3) for locking and unlocking a motor vehicle. An ignition key (4) is provided for inserting into an ignition lock (2). A transponder coil (6) is provided in the ignition key such that the actuation unit does not perform locking or unlocking function even if the unit receives electromagnetic radio impulse from the key when the key is less than a predetermined distance from the lock. An independent claim is also included for a device for prevention of activation of a function of a motor vehicle.
