<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotation detector easily detecting rotation of a rotor. <P>SOLUTION: A light receiving part 54 receives light passed through a cut part 169 without being interrupted by a stem 168, wherein a rate of a light amount received to a total light amount irradiated by a light projection part 52 is light receiving amount(%) of a light receiving part 54. The light receiving part 54 outputs current signal I corresponding to the received light amount of the light receiving part 54 to a received light processing part 500. The received light amount processing part 500 processes the current signal I inputted from the light receiving part 54 so that a controller 20 can output a control signal for controlling a rotation of the driving roll 164. The controller 20 calculates the information regarding the rotation of the driving roll 164 such as rotational position of the stem 168, speed from a generation time of the pulse and a period inputted from the received light processing part 500.
