PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated optical fiber which has excellent rigidity and has a flame-retardant property capable of suppressing the dripping upon the burning. SOLUTION: In the coated optical fiber, a cover layer made of, for example, polyamide, having excellent strippability is formed as the inner layer on an optical fiber and a drip suppression layer made of, for example, flame-retardant polyolefin resin containing metal hydrate of 20 mass% or more, capable of suppressing the dripping is formed as the outer layer. The two-layer structure in the resin cover layer part can produce such excellent characteristics as drip suppression property, bending rigidity and transmission loss characteristic.
