An incoming signal (SEL) is fed to a limiting amplifier's (LA) (1) input (EL), whose amplification is selected so that a bit-output signal (SAL) with limited amplitude on the LA's output (AL) is checked for phase noise and the incoming signal is classified as a wanted signal, if phase noise output in the SAL falls below a preset threshold. An independent claim is also included for a circuit structure for differentiating between a frequency-/phase-modulated wanted signal and a noise signal in an incoming signal.
