PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite material having a new constitution where the difference in thermal expansion coefficients in the grain boundaries is made to be the optimum value by using fibrous materials, and in which the generation of cracks caused by the difference in thermal expansion coefficients can be reduced. SOLUTION: The composite material comprises: a first composite part 1 composed of a sintered compact 1' consisting of iron-based metal particles and light metal 3' impregnated and solidified into the pore part of the sintered compact 1'; a second composite part 2 integrally formed at least on one side of the first composite part 1 and composed of a fiber material 2' consisting of one or more kinds selected from whiskers, short fibers 2' and filaments and light metal 3' holding the fiber material 2'; and a light metal part 3 formed integrally with the first composite part 1 via the second composite part 2 and composed of light metal 3'. The thermal expansion coefficient of the second composite part 2 is a middle value between that of the first composite part 1 and that of the light metal part 3. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
