PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a leak detection method for efficiently and surely detecting a leak in a container without depending on visual check. SOLUTION: According to this leak detection method applied to a container 1 for liquefying a vapor in a vacuum state, a gas detector 6 is connected to terminals of pipelines 10 and 11 for evacuation connected to the container 1, an inert gas is blown into the outside of the container 1 with the container 1 evacuated, and a leak position in the container 1 is located by detecting the inert gas by the gas detector 6.
