PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the degree of freedom in terms of lens design while keeping the size of a camera small at non-photographing. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus equipped with an imager (6) for outputting an electric signal in accordance with the quantity of incident light is provided with a reflection mirror (3) for bending and changing the optical path of the incident light, a 1st lens group (2) arranged on the object side of the reflection mirror, and driven so that the group may be partly stored in the imaging apparatus at non-photographing, and the group may project toward the object than in the storage state at photographing, and a 2nd lens group (4) arranged on the imager side of the reflection mirror, the reflection mirror is shifted and positioned so as to change the optical path of the optical object image made incident on the mirror through the 1st lens group toward the 2nd lens group at photographing, and shifted and positioned so as to retreat from an area where the 1st lens group is stored at non-photographing.
