PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chromium-containing hard metal which shows the long life when used in a tool for cutting steel materials and castings at high speeds, by improving hardness, strength, toughness, abrasion resistance, seizing resistance and plastic-deformation resistance, and to provide a coated hard metal thereof. SOLUTION: The chromium-containing hard metal comprises 5 to 20 vol.% metallic bonding phase mainly containing cobalt and/or nickel, 2 to 20 vol.% dispersion phase made of a composite compound containing chromium, titanium and N, and the balance tungsten carbide with unavoidable impurities. Then, the chromium-containing hard metal has superior hardness, strength, toughness, abrasion resistance, seizing resistance and plastic-deformation resistance. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
