The invention relates to a device for grouping piece goods (1), which are fed by transport means (2) in an essentially closed stream along a transport plane and are grouped longitudinally in the transport direction (F) by at least one distribution finger (3) that can be introduced into the stream from below transversally to the transport plane. The distribution finger or fingers is/are motor-driven by drive elements, which can execute the free displacement of the distribution finger(s) transversally to the transport plane (z-direction) independently of a displacement along the transport direction (y-direction) and vice versa.
