<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original size detecting apparatus capable of detecting the sizes of various original using an image pickup means having a limited image angle in detecting the size of an original without pre-scanning. <P>SOLUTION: Seven detecting positions are set on a box region 450 on an original platen glass surface to be picked up with an area sensor. A mean value of neighboring pixels in the detecting positions is calculated and "original present/absent" is discriminated per detecting position in response to change in data of this mean value. The size of an original is decided on the basis of results of discrimination in all the detecting positions. For example, if an original of B5R size is set, it is judged to be "original present" to the detecting positions 1-2 with respect to a main scanning direction, and it is judge to be "original present" to the detecting positions 6-7 with respect to a sub-scanning direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
