PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new adamantane derivative useful as a monomer for functional resins such as a photosensitive resin in a photolithographic field. SOLUTION: The adamantane derivative has a structure represented by general formula (I) (wherein R is a hydrogen atom, a methyl group or a trifluoromethyl group; Y is a 1-10C alkyl group, a halogen atom or a hydroxy group or two of Y are joined together to form =O and a plurality of Ys may be the same or different; R<SP>1</SP>is a 1-10C alkyl group or a cycloalkyl group and may contain a hetero atom and/or a nitrile group in a part of the structure; k is an integer of 0-14 and m and n are each an integer of 0 or 1). The method for producing the adamantane derivative comprises leading the alcohol substance of the corresponding adamantane compound to an alkanesulfonyloxy substance and then reacting the alkanesulfonyloxy substance with an alcohol.
