A nucleic acid is immobilized on a carrier by spotting a solution of the nucleic acid on the carrier comprising a synthetic resin such as polycarbonate, polymethyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene copolymer, polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polyphenol, polystyrene, polyacrylonitrile, polyvinyl chloride, or aramide, drying the solution, and irradiating the carrier with an ultraviolet ray containing a component having a wavelength of 280 nm, preferably for 100 mJ/cm<SUP>2 </SUP>or more.
