[PROBLEMS] This invention provides a material which can be simply applied to a base material, can be applied to a wide variety of base materials, and, at the same time, can form an antifouling film having excellent antifouling properties and a base material with an ink-receptive layer having excellent decoloring properties. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] The material is a titanium-containing silica sol characterized by comprising (a) fine particles which are fine particles (a1) or (a2): (a1) titania fine particles having an average particle diameter of 2 to 50 nm and porous silica fine particles having an average particle diameter of 5 to 100 nm and a specific surface area of not less than 300 m²/g as determined by the BET method; or (a2) porous silica fine particles comprising porous silica fine particles having an average particle diameter of 5 to 100 nm and a specific surface area of not less than 300 m²/g as determined by the BET method, the surface of the porous silica fine particles having been modified with a titanate compound, and (b) a dispersion medium.
