<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable display device and communication system and method that can ensure a large volume of information transmission. <P>SOLUTION: The display device 1 and an input/output terminal 2 comprise light emission/reception parts 11 and 21 capable of displaying video and receiving light, respectively. The input/output terminal 2 sequentially displays each symbol forming a two-dimensional video code on the light emission/reception part 21. The display device 1 reads each symbol with the light emission/reception part 11, acquires symbol exchange state information SI according to the read symbol, decides display conditions DC according to the symbol exchange state information SI, and later displays each symbol of a two-dimensional video code according to the display conditions DC.
