PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent contaminations from occurring in a tube used for flowing a sample liquid, to avoid a time delay caused by too few a flowrate, and to lower the probability of count loss for fine particles contained in the sample liquid, which is caused by detecting the fine particles, based on intensity of scattering light produced by the irradiation with a sheet-like beam. SOLUTION: An apparatus for measuring the fine particles is provided which comprises an optical irradiation means which is disposed at a space above the liquid level of the sample liquid and makes the sample liquid irradiated with a sheet-like detection light beam for producing a planar detectable region in the sample liquid; a scattering light detecting means which is disposed at the space above the liquid level and detects light scattered from each fine particle, existing inside the whole or a portion of the detectable region; and a calculation processing means which calculates the particle size and the particle count of the fine particles, based on the detection output from the scattered light detection means.
