In a washing machine equipped with a plastic tub, the bottom (3) of which includes a central part (7) in which a hub is mounted, this hub supporting the shaft carrying the basket of the washing machine, the central part (7) is surrounded by one or more closed evacuated chambers. These chambers are delimited between a circular reinforcement flange (collar) (12) on the bottom (3) of the tub and a protective device (15) connected, in a sealed manner, to this flange (12) and to the central part (7). This arrangement increases the lifetime of the hub, thereby preventing it from being subjected to heat shocks by the washing liquid. <IMAGE>
