<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inflator capable of correctly protecting a chest and a waist of an occupant by inflating and deploying a side airbag in various kinds of inflation and deployment modes. <P>SOLUTION: The inflator 10 has a plurality of gas feed units to generate different gas outputs into a single casing 11. Gas chambers R1, R2 of each gas feed unit are separated from each other in a gastight manner by a gastight bulkhead 11b provided in the casing 11. A plurality of gas feed passages 11c1, 11d1 to be individually communicated with the gas chambers R1, R2 are provided in the casing 11. One gas feed passage 11c1 is communicated with an inflation chamber 42 for the chest of a side airbag 40 to protect a side of an occupant in a vehicle.
