<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further improve contrast by reducing reflection on a color filter. <P>SOLUTION: This transmissive color liquid crystal display device comprises: a liquid crystal panel 17 which adjusts light transmittance by changing a plane of polarization of linearly polarized light passed through a lower side polarizing plate 18 and which is disposed between the lower side polarizing plate 18 of the light source side and an upper side polarizing plate 19 of the display side; and a color filter 20 disposed between the liquid crystal panel 17 and the upper side polarizing plate 19.
