PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enclose oxygen of proper quantity which promotes a tungsten-halogen cycle neither more nor less in the discharge container of a high-pressure discharge lamp and raises a lamp lifetime certainly, to simultaneously make easily regulating of the amount of oxygen enclosing, and to perform a mass production of durable high-pressure discharge lamp efficiently. SOLUTION: One or both of tungsten electrodes 5R and 5L arranged in the discharge container 2 of the high-voltage discharge lamp 1 is heated in an oxidizing atmosphere. Consequently, the oxygen of suitable quantity for promoting a normal tungsten-halogen cycle is enclosed in the discharge container 2 of the high-voltage discharge lamp 1 as the oxygen formed on the front surface of the tungsten electrode.
