PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a personal identification device preventing great reduction in a collation rate due to a shift of an input position of personal information. SOLUTION: A correspondence rate is calculated by subtracting a constant from the number of corresponding characteristic points between input personal information characteristic data and registered personal information characteristic data in occurrence of an input positional shift in a personal information image reading means 1. This calculated correspondence rate is compared with a threshold value above a previously set predetermined another person acceptance rate, and correspondence is determined when the correspondence rate is above the threshold value. In this way, a personal identification rejection rate is relatively lowered since the another person acceptance rate is dependent of a positional shift amount in a data collation means 3. Therefore, reduction in the collation rate, which is due to reduction in an effective collation determination area caused when a common area is narrowed due to a positional shift in the personal information image reading means 1, is prevented, and consequently, collation determination precision in the case of an input position shift can be improved without requiring any increase in a production cost.
