PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display controller that can reduce the load of processing required for performing a slide display operation, without increasing the memory size of a font ROM for display. SOLUTION: The display controller includes a display operation control circuit 104 for controlling the display operation on a screen, on the basis of horizontal and vertical synchronizing signals; an address translation circuit 116, which calculates the order of the screen for slide operation and the order of the line for the horizontal scanning position, in a display pattern with respect to a display font address 114, and which translates the display font address 114 into a translation font address 117 for obtaining the display pattern to perform sliding operation; and a font data translation circuit 120 for generating the display pattern, which is needed to perform a sliding operation display, from display font data 119 which are output by a display font ROM 118, on the basis of the translation font address 117.
