PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering system which enables a steering column to be appropriately drawn at the time of secondary collision. SOLUTION: A column-drawing device 300, which draws the steering column toward the front of a vehicle by changing the amount of draw, is arranged at the steering system. After the collision of the vehicle has been detected by a vehicle-collision sensor 402, when the secondary collision is detected by a displacement sensor 406 based on the amount of displacement of the steering column, the column is drawn by the column-drawing device 300, thus the impact on a driver is alleviated. Furthermore, at the time of the wearing of a seat belt, the amount of draw of the column becomes large, thus the impact is absorbed more mildly. On the other hand, at the time when the seat belt is not worn, the amount of draw of the column becomes small.
