PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device in which a colored liquid is effectively transferred, and in which a display is conducted by transferring the colored liquid between electrodes. SOLUTION: The display device in which change of display state is easily conducted, and power consumption is reduced and which exhibits high contrast is realized, because even when external force due to normal gravity, vibration and so on is applied to the device, the colored liquid 18 is prevented from being arbitrarily transferred to a space of another layer owing to surface tension or adhesive force, functioning as restraining force, of the colored liquid 18 in each of an upper layer space 14a and a lower layer space 14b vertically separated via a transfer hole 15 of an intermediate partition wall 13, and when the change of the display states is to be conducted, the device is equipped with a means to supplementally generate force of the electric field and other forces.
