PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a zoom lens which satisfactorily corrects aberrations accompanying the zooming while permitting miniaturization of the whole lens system and is suitable for a liquid crystal projector having excellent optical performances over the whole screen. SOLUTION: The zoom lens has a first lens group having negative refractive power, a second lens group having positive refractive power, a third lens group having positive refractive power and a fourth lens group having positive refractive power in order from the front side to the back side, wherein at least two lens groups move while changing mutual spaces upon zooming and all of the moving lens groups perform multiplication with respect to the image formation from the front side to the back side upon zooming from the wide angle end to the telephoto end.
