PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical scanner for image forming with which uniform light spots are image-formed on respective faces to be scanned with a plurality of light beams and light deflection by a multistage rotating polygon mirror, the bending of scanning lines and nonuniform beam diameters are reduced, an excellent layout is given and a high quality image record is obtained. SOLUTION: The optical scanner has an image forming optical system with which light beams from a plurality of light source means are scanned with a common deflection means, and image-formed on respective faces to be scanned corresponding to the respective light source means. The deflection means is provided with the multistage rotating polygon mirror having the normal line angles of the deflection faces different with respect to a plane orthogonal to the rotation axis, and the optical element which is closest to the deflection means among optical elements composing the image forming optical system is the optical element which is commonly used by the light beams from the plurality of light source means.
