PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus enables which a user to carry out on-hand photographing in a stable grip state even when the imaging apparatus is downsized and low-profiled. SOLUTION: The outward appearance of a casing of a digital still camera 20 is formed in such a way that a straight line 20c-1 is formed in an upper side face 20-3 and a straight line 20c-3 is formed in a bottom side face 20-5 among four side faces of the digital still camera 20, straight lines 20c-2, 20c-4 are formed and curved lines are respectively formed in both ends of the straight lines 20c-2, 20c-4 to tie both ends of the straight lines 20c-1, 20c-3 in a shortest distance thereby forming a line obliquely traversing side faces 20-4, 20-6 and making a round on the four side faces of the digital still camera 20. Then a slope face 20d with a prescribed angle toward a front face 20-1 and a slope face 20e toward a rear face 20-2 by using the line round on the four side faces as a linear apex to thereby form the outward appearance of the casing. The user cam make stable gripping by using a slope of nearly a triangle formed between the oblique apices of the side faces 20-4, 20-6 and the rear side face 20-2 for a support face for the thumb of the user in the case of gripping through the outward appearance of the enclosure.
