The present invention provides systems and methods for u1tra-wideband communication devices to maintain synchronization. One embodiment of the present invention provides a method by which ultra wideband communication devices may update their timing references by the use of a statistics register. In another embodimennt, a network of ultra-wideband communication devices uses the statistics registers of a plurality of ultra-wideband devices to update their timing references based on calculating a function.
