PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that noise is newly generated and a circuit scale becomes large in a conventional method for reducing spurious profiles. SOLUTION: The image display apparatus in which one field is divided into a plurality of weighted subfields and multi-gradation display is performed by combining the plurality of subfields, comprises; a motion amount detection circuit 50 for detecting a motion amount from a current field and a previous field of an input image signal; a diffusing amount calculating circuit 52 for calculating a diffusing amount for diffusing the spurious profiles noise to its surroundings based on a gradation of the input image signal and the detected motion amount; and a diffusing circuit 53 for performing a diffusing process according to the calculated diffusing amount.
