PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic developing machine and a platemaking method for a planographic printing plate by which an economical process is performed without separately preparing developing lines for a photosensitive planographic original printing plate and for a planographic original dummy plate, stable platemaking qualities can be maintained for both plates even when both of a photosensitive planographic original printing plate and a planographic original dummy plate are supplied as mixed, and the time required for the platemaking process is shortened. SOLUTION: The automatic developing machine is equipped with: a first conveying passage for conveying a planographic printing plate; a developing unit connected to the first conveying passage; a second conveying passage connected to the developing unit for conveying a developed planographic printing plate; a washing unit connected to the second conveying passage; a third conveying passage connected to the washing unit for conveying a washed planographic printing plate; and a fourth conveying passage connected to the first conveying passage for conveying a planographic printing plate to the second conveying passage without conveying the plate to the developing unit.
