PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power transmission apparatus inexpensively, which can regulate a rotatable angle of a gear without applying load to the gear for transmitting power from a drive motor to an driving object. SOLUTION: A shift cam 40 is attached to a shaft end of a main guide shaft 9 guiding a carriage with a recording head mounted therein in a main scanning direction. The main guide shaft 9 is displaced in its height direction by a rotation of the main guide shaft 9, thereby changing a gap PG between the recording head and a printing sheet. Power of the elevation drive motor 8 is transmitted to the main guide shaft 9 via a gear train 30. The gear train 30 is provided with: a starting gear 52 engaged with a pinion gear 51 attached to a rotation shaft of the elevation drive motor 8; a final gear 36 attached to the main guide shaft 9; and a rotation-regulated gear 55 positioned among these gears.
