<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound capable of causing reduction of production cost by recycling a palladium catalyst component and using hydrogen as a reducing agent. SOLUTION: 2,7-Octadien-1-ol is reacted with a mixed gas of hydrogen with carbon dioxide in the presence of a catalyst composed of a palladium catalyst obtained by reducing a palladium compound such as palladium acetate and a tertiary-organophosphorus ligand, e.g. compound of formula I such as tricyclohexylphosphine or a compound of formula II (R<4> to R<7> are each a hydrocarbon group; R<8> is a bifunctional 1-6C organic crosslinked group) such as 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane, and then, the mixed reaction solution is subjected to distillation operation to provide the objective reaction product containing 1,7-octadiene and 1,6-octadiene. Unreacted residual material is reused for reaction. These compounds are useful for production of polyolefin.</p> |
