PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a road area detecting device which is hardly affected by variations in the lightness and hue of an image, an animal present outside a road area and noise in the image. SOLUTION: An estimation part 2 for a dynamic image finds moving vectors by blocks from image information obtained by a monitor camera 1. The moving vectors are inputted to a moving vector time filter 3 and have their horizontal and vertical components filtered respectively in the temporal direction as to blocks at the same position in the dynamic image. A distribution generation part 5 generates the distribution of the horizontal and vertical components of the moving vectors and a correlation coefficient arithmetic part 6 finds the correlation coefficient of the distribution. The correlation coefficient is compared with a threshold 8, and a road area decision part 9 decides the road area according to the result. Consequently, the road area can be extracted with high precision without being affected by the lightness and hue of the image. |
