Disclosed is a sub-function device (60, 61) which is used to expand the functional scope of a transaction terminal (10). The inventive device consists of a microcomputer (62, 102) and is mounted in a dongle type manner in a signal link (90, 92) between a peripheral device (50) and the terminal (10). When a transaction is carried out, the sub-function device (60, 61) is used by the terminal (10) to execute sub-steps which cannot be carried out on the terminal (10) because of hardware or software constraints. The sub-function device (60, 61) is switched on when the terminal (10) sends suitable signals to the signal link (90, 92) recognized by the sub-function device (60, 61). The sub-function device provides the terminal (10) with sub-results. |
