<p>Illumination apparatus has a light-emitting diode with a round cross section to emit an illumination beam (4). A light-refracting optical unit, e.g. lens, receives the beam. The optical unit includes light entrance surface and a light exit surface (7), where the surfaces have cross-sectional shape and shaped free-form surface, respectively, such that all the light from the beam is bundled into a resultant illumination beam. An independent claim is also included for a combination comprising a microscope and the above illumination apparatus.</p> |
