Two symmetrically-situated holes (2,3) pass right through the brick (1), and accommodate grouted-in reinforcing rods (4). The brick sidewall adjacent to each hole contains a fracture zone (5) extending for the height of the brick. When the fracture zone is broken away, the brick can be placed on a reinforcing rod in the sideways direction. The fracture zone can be enclosed by two weakening lines (8,9) in the sidewall. One can be formed by a notch and the other by a continuous gap. The holes can be of round or square section.
