The breather has a tube (2) connected to a small opening provided above a gearbox. The tube is elastically deformable and has a flattened zone (4) at one of its ends, where the flattened zone is terminated by two walls (5, 6). The walls are separated from each other under the effect gas pressure generated during the operation of the gearbox, and are connected to each other during non-operation period of the gearbox operation. - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for a gearbox equipped with a breather.
