PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, a apparatus, and a program for linking a toponym, especially the toponym expressed in abbreviation, to a map by automatic processing. SOLUTION: An abbreviation creating function 22 creates, from a toponym database (18) making the toponym and a coordinate value correspond to each other, an abbreviated toponym database (24) making the abbreviated toponym corresponding to each toponym and the coordinate value correspond to each other. A toponym extracting function (28) refers to the abbreviated toponym database (24) and extracts a character string indicating the toponym out of an input document (26). A link embedding function (30) embeds information indicating the map containing the toponym as its location, for example the coordinate value, in the character string indicating the toponym extracted in the toponym extracting function (28).
